Normative

The Vibrational and Electron Spectroscopy Unit functions under the Scientific and Technical Services Regulations of the University of Oviedo. Besides, the following are Unit-specific regulations:

  • The photoelectron spectroscopy equipment (XPS) requires previous training and experience for its use; due to this, its use is restricted to the Unit’s technical personnel. In some rare cases, and for users who adequately prove their experience in the use of similar equipment â€" provided there is a written authorisation given by the technician in charge â€" right of use shall be granted to external personnel.
  • Due to the ultra-high vacuum conditions required by the XPS equipment as well as the fragility of the spectrometer optical systems and the circular dichroism spectrometer, the Unit reserves the right of admission of samples that may damage the equipment as a consequence of its content in volatile elements or in corrosive or aggressive vapours.
  • Due to the time-resolved fluorometer modular character, the need to manipulate the pieces of the equipment as well as the control program is frequent. For this reason, this service does not work in self-service mode. Therefore, it is necessary to hand in the samples to the technician, who would analyse them under the instructions of the user.
